The Milton Education Village (MEV) is a coworking area located one hour west of Toronto at 555 Industrial Drive in the township of Milton. The facility is the result of a collaboration between several branches of government and Wilfred Laurier University. There is plenty of on-site free parking and a bus stop right in front of the building.
Housed in the former town hall of the Milton, MEV is a very spacious facility with a nice level of finish. The space was redone by a local architect and paintings by a local artist adorn many of the walls. The furnishings are top notch and brand new.
Inside there is a very long reception desk positioned in front of the entryway. To the right of reception is the area that is used by the university and several offices. One of the offices is used by admin and another is a satellite office of the Halton Region Economic Development Division. The teaching room used by the university is state-of-the art. There are multiple white boards with short throw projectors throughout the space.
To the left of reception is the communal area with the coffee bar and coworking areas. Several rented office spaces line the perimeter.
Of note are the awesome tables in the coworking area. The tables have castors which makes it really easy to reconfigure the space. For my day at MEV I simply (strategically…) rolled out one of the tables into the lobby.
In terms of coffee, they have a standard Keurig machine. Pods are provided but there is a tip jar to help offset the cost. There is also a percolator but it wasn’t being used.
Finally, behind reception are three boardrooms of differing sizes.
Further into the building and past the washrooms is the kitchen and the cafeteria. The cafeteria is quite large and has been recently outfitted with brand-new furniture.
In behind the cafeteria is a large office space that is currently rented out by a tech startup.
Surprisingly the internet connection was rather slow, definitely odd considering how nice the facility is.
As one can see from the pictures, the facility is very large and on the day that I went – not that busy. As a result it felt empty at times yet, ironically, I spent most of the day talking to people. I’m not sure if it is all the fresh air or maybe because we were in the ‘burbs’ but people were very friendly and inquisitive about Lift Top. I received some great advice about marketing and PR ideas.
If you’re out in Milton and looking for a place to work with others – check out MEV! It is a large, beautiful facility with friendly people.
